Case Scenario
Mrs. Geeta arrived in active labor at her local health facility and is experiencing strong contractions. The midwife told her to lie in a bed but gave her nothing to cover herself with. She then pushed Mrs. Geeta’s legs apart to perform a vaginal examination without first explaining what she was going to do. There were no curtains between the beds and other women could easily see Mrs. Geeta. Mrs. Geeta was shouting in pain and was trying to close her legs during the vaginal examination. The midwife scolded Mrs. Geeta and told her to keep quiet. She did not communicate the findings to Mrs. Geeta, just saying, ‘You have to be admitted to the hospital.’ The midwife did not support Mrs. Geeta in bringing a companion with her.
